James Burton

James Burton, Of Counsel

James practiced law for 24 years with the Office of the Cook County Public Guardian. After spending 13 years in the Cook County Child Protection Court as a supervisor and advocate for abused, neglected and dependent children, Mr. Burton joined the Financial Recovery Unit in the Office’s Probate Division. The Financial Recovery Unit files suit on behalf of the Public Guardian’s disabled wards who have been exploited financially.

Community Involvement

James participated in the Shanghai Social Services Exchange Program, visiting Shanghai, China as a delegate to exchange ideas about the care and treatment of the elderly. James is the founding member of Our Community of Illinois, Inc., and a non-profit dedicated to enriching the lives of youth in foster care. James is a board member of Kaleidoscope, an agency working with children and families impacted by abuse and neglect. James is also on the Human Rights Committee of Esperanza Community Services, a non-profit that supports children and adults with developmental disabilities.
